Is keeping project management tasks simple the way forward?

I gained my project management skills gradually as interest, job opportunities and various training courses arose and built on my engineering foundation

My career started with an engineering degree, and I worked my way through to capex manager via an Engineer, Senior Engineer, Project Engineer, Project Manager route

I sometimes wonder if I would have gone into capex management much earlier if post-graduate teaching of project management with an engineering focus had been provided at universities back then

Therefore, I am pleased to see that the University of Manchester Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering (https://www.mace.manchester.ac.uk) currently offers a MSc Management of Projects suite with the following four 12-month course options

  • MSc Management of Projects
  • MSc Engineering Project Management
  • MSc Commercial Project Management
  • MSc Construction Project Management

I hope these courses are supported and they start careers as rewarding as mine

As many capital projects involve structures and plant, having an engineering foundation makes project decision making a whole lot easier
