Different perspectives can provide different meanings

My view of the Client’s perspective of capital project implementation changed during my career.

When I worked for an EPCM Contractor, I thought that design was key to the success of the project. Get the design phase right and the project should deliver.

I moved to a site and realised that, from a Client’s perspective, the “shop window” of an EPCM contractor’s competence was the construction progress and site safety.

This was especially true when Clients were involved with safety audits and near miss reporting.

Also when nearing construction completion, the Client is lining up his commissioning team. These extra resources then see delays occurring due to difficulties in delivering construction on time

Unfortunately an EPCM contractors comfort zone and main low risk revenue stream is head office hours without managing 3rd parties. It is common for site management and support to be under resourced (and in some cases not contractually offered)

So try to always see Projects through the Client’s eyes
Successful projects are about meeting the client’s real needs. Align resource priorities with what matters most to them. A project that fits the client’s viewpoint builds trust, avoids surprises, and delivers outcomes that truly satisfy.
